Local Politics : North Sumatera's Next Governor Election Campaign

On 16th April 2008, there will be a major local democratic events held in North Sumatera.
This province's citizen will have a governor election for 2008-2013 governance period on that day.
The local election commission (KPUD) has decided that there will be 5 pairs of candidates participating in the campaign.
The campaign itself will be held from 1st - 12th April 2008.

The Name of candidates as below (based on election number):
  1. H.M. Ali Umri-Dr Maratua Simanjuntak supported by Partai Golkar.
  2. Mayjen TNI (Purn) Tritamtomo-Benny Pasaribu supported by PDIP.
  3. RE Siahaan-H. Suherdi supported by 8 party named Partai Damai Sejahtera (PDS), Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (PKB), Partai Perhimpunan Indonesia Baru (PPIB), Partai Persatuan Daerah (PPD), Partai Pelopor, Partai Buruh Sosial Demokrat (PBSD), PNI Marhaenis and Partai Nasional Banteng Kemerdekaan (PNBK).
  4. H. Wahab Dalimunthe-H Raden Syafii supported by Partai Demokrat that make coalition with Partai Bintang Reformasi and Partai Amanat Nasional.
  5. H. Syamsul Arifin-Ir Gatot Pudjo Nugroho supported by Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS), Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP), Partai Bulan Bintang (PBB), Partai Patriot, PKPI, PDK, PNI Marhaenisme, Partai Merdeka, PPNUI, PSI, PPDI and PKPB.
From 5 candidates of governor, three of them are/were partai Golkar member. H.M. Ali Umri himself is the North Sumatera Partai Golkar chairman. H. Wahab Dalimunthe (ex-chairman) and H. Syamsul Arifin were also member of partai Golkar which dismissed from the party because still participating in this event.

The other phenomena occurs in this 2008 election is that from 5 candidates of vice governor, three of them are ulama.

For a note, this is the 1st North Sumatera's direct governor election. Previous governor, elected by the North Sumatera House of Representative (DPRD).
This election will be crucial because the elected governor will lead this province to globalisation era (2010).

Which pairs will win this election?
Will the election be fair?
Will the election not leave any fraction or problem in society?
